 Latino's Favor Democrats 5 to 1

The declining fortunes of the GOP come as no surprise to Democrats. The GOP lag among Latinos has been brewing for well over a year now, with no resurgence of support in sight. Senator Martinez hit the nail on the head when he said, "the people who come from the Caribbean and Latin America are not looking for welfare. They want to work, to start businesses. Their dream is to own their own home." The Senator's tone makes clear he is not happy with the direction his party is taking on immigration.

Martinez goes on to say that Latinos also "have great pride -- and sensitivity. He noted that "immigration is not really an issue for Cubans, but we want to see people treated with respect. When they start saying that it's un-American to have ballots printed in Spanish, it sends a message that we're not wanted, not respected." Recent polls by the Pew Hispanic Center, Gallup, and more recently, NDN, confirm this shift away from the GOP, a result propelled by the hard line position and harsh rhetoric many Republicans have embraced on the immigration issue. The Pew Hispanic Center survey found that among registered Hispanic voters, Democrats have a major advantage over Republicans--46% to 9%--as the party that is perceived to have more concern for Latinos.

 Day At The Fair

Today my wife Marie and son Chris went to the state fair to meet democratic candidates from around the state.

This was Chris' first political experience, now I don't mean voting or putting out signs, he has done those, but I am talking about an organized political rally.

We joined others to take a bus of supporters to Springfield. There were 45 buses from all across Illinois, a virtual River of Blue flowing into the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

The one thing that disturbed me was that on the podium were all these politicians from Chicago, and not one from Southern Illinois.
Dan Stover the Democratic Candidate for Illinois 19th Congressional District, was there on the grounds, but was not invited on stage.

WHY?

Stover represents 30% of the counties in the state in his district, one out of three and yet he wasn't invited to speak. A tremendous number of Southern Illinois Democrats were there, but no voice was heard about this lopsided representation.

Stover deserves democratic support, there is no harder working candidate in the state, as Alexi Giannoulias candidate for State Treasurer said recently in a rally in Johnson County, IL, "Stover is one of the hardest working candidates I know, everywhere I go, Danny is there"

Alexi ought to know, he is also there, this young man has weathered viscious attacks on himself and his family during the primaries, and to a degree even now in the general election. Yet this young man is still smiling and campaigning like a pro.

At the State Fair, he was the only candidate on the podium that stood during applause for each candidate as they were introduced, clapping and smiling. We expect great things from Alexi.

To say that the democrats were "Fired Up" would have been an understatement. The most popular candidate was not even running Barak Obama, followed closely by Governor Rod Blagojevich, and then Richard Daley, Mayor of Chicago, and Fourth Jesse White Secretary of State of Illinois.

Seeing these 4 and Danny Stover at the fair was worth the hours of travel, and waiting.

While all the candidates that spoke were heavy on Platitudes for one another, which is to be expected at a party rally of any kind, one would hope that there would be substantial statements made about how to take back the governing of America from the entrenched Republicans, well it didn't happen.

But overall it was a Great Day to be a Democrat in the State of Illinois.

The Latino Contingent was front and center and many signs announced that fact.

Best sign at the Rally said "Bush Trimming Begins 11/07/06"

We met many from other areas of the State who are interested in authoring a page for their county on www.WeDemocrats.com But we still have many counties that don't have an author, if you are interested please contact me at netquest@shawneelink.net and I will talk to you about handling such a page.

Of all the candidates, only two got off their duff and worked the crowd, Danny Stover running in IL-19 and Jesse White Sec of State. Both men deserve our support.

We managed to grab a couple chairs in the Reserved Senior Seating tent, where we found out that the "Seniors" are getting much younger, saw several who were about 3 or 4 years old. :)

Kankakee County Democrats, had a couple representatives there who worked the crowd like a tag team and were quite effective. Glad to see that there are still intelligent people in Kankakee, thought most had been brainwashed by the Ryan Republican Machine.

Speaking of brainwashed, You know you've been brain washed, if you....

... believe Halliburton's no-bid contracts have nothing to do with former CEO, now Vice President Dick Cheney.

... are unaware stem cell research threatens the pharmaceutical industry by curing and preventing diseases which drug companies profit from by treating with drugs.

... are unaware the pharmaceutical industry is based entirely on treatment and is threatened by cures and prevention.

... are unaware the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act has been 're- estimated' to cost U.S. taxpayers $1.3 Trillion (not the original $243 billion or the 'adjusted' $400 billion), and only pharmaceutical corporations and HMOs benefit from the increase.

... are unaware the definition of fascism is: 'The marriage of corporation and state' -- Benito Mussolini.

... believe the massive U.S. national debt (now $7,786,000,000,000) created by Republican presidents Reagan, Bush and Bush does not seriously threaten the future of our children and grandchildren.

... are unaware massive national debt ensures the expansion of poverty, which keeps wages low, which increases corporate profits.

... are unaware widespread poverty keeps wages low and corporate profits high.

... are unaware weak gun control laws perpetuate violence in poor neighborhoods which expands poverty, reduces wages and increases corporate profits.

If you believe Fox News is fair and balanced, you have been brainwashed by corporate owned media.

DON'T be brainwashed, hold on to your sanity, vote democratic on Novemeber 7th.

 Had Enough, Damn Right!

The Congressional Scorecard Report is out for 2006. It looks at the most important public interest votes taken between February 9, 2005 and February 1, 2006 in the U.S. Congress. These votes determined the direction of federal policy on critical issues ranging from environmental preservation to health care to consumer protections.

Quickie highlights -- 13 members of the Senate and 92 members of the House did not take the public interest position on any of the votes that U.S. PIRG tracked — they are considered Public Interest Zeros. IL has no Heroes -- got a few Zeroes:

Henry Hyde (IL)
Donald Manzullo (IL)
John Shimkus (IL)

Voting records on the PIRG issues (2006, Lifetime):

Durbin (D) 95% 85%
Obama (D) 86% 86%

1 Rush (D) 77% 78%
2 Jackson (D) 100% 95%
3 Lipinski (D) 86% 86%
4 Gutierrez (D) 77% 91%
5 Emanuel (D) 68% 81%
6 Hyde (R) 0% 8%
7 Davis (D) 82% 90%
8 Bean (D) 77% 77%
9 Schakowsky (D) 91% 96%
10 Kirk (R) 41% 46%
11 Weller (R) 0% 10%
12 Costello (D) 73% 70%
13 Biggert (R) 18% 14%
14 Hastert (R) * *
* The Speaker of the House votes at his discretion.
15 Johnson (R) 64% 53%
16 Manzullo (R) 0% 11%
17 Evans (D) 95% 92%
18 LaHood (R) 27% 22%
19 Shimkus (R) 0% 4%

NOTE: The WORST -- by far -- worse than Manzullo, Weller, & even Hyde -- John Shimkus. Johnson's constituents are wondering if the man fell off the planet, & he's better.

NOTE (Again): IL-19 is HIGH on the MTBE contamination charts.

Danny Stover will save IL-19, he will bring sanity back to the Southern 30 Counties of Illinois in the 19th Congressional District. Vote Stover for Congress in Illinois-19th

 Dan Stover's Got a Blog!

Dan Stover who's running for Congress in IL-19, has got a Blog! It's maintained by Matt Bell who works for the Campaign with a regular assist from the Candidate himself. You can see it by going to: http://blogforstover.blogspot.com/
Stover's official site is: http://www.stoverforcongress.us/

If we want to turn Illinois blue from Lake to shining River, it's by focusing on Races throughout the State. That's why getting a perspective from a blog like this is so fascinating.

 Budget Bull

Eric Bohlert is right, our Media is nothing but a bunch of "lapdogs". Who other than lapdogs would report in a straight face that the budget deficit has been cut in half? Even if you could only count on your fingers and toes, this claim in preposterous -- yet we're barraged by endless media reports making precisely this claim.

Here are the deficits provided courtesy of ThinkProgress:

1. 2004 (George W. Bush) $413 billion
2. 2003 (George W. Bush) $378 billion
3. 2005 (George W. Bush) $318 billion
4. 2006 (George W. Bush) $296 billion (projected)
5. 1992 (George H. W. Bush) $290 billion

The real news here is that the deficit this year will be a mere $22 billion less than the preceding year! And these are the 'Good Times' supposedly. Think what'll happen as the economy slows down -- which is the other news of the day. You'd think the media could connect the dots of their own headlines, instead of merely supplying stenography service on behalf of the White House.

Had Enough? Vote Democratic in the fall elections.
